Passenger Plane Catches Fire on Runway in South Korea

A passenger plane caught fire on the runway in South Korea on January 28, prompting a swift evacuation of all passengers on board.

The incident occurred on an Air Busan A321 aircraft as it was preparing for takeoff from Gyeonggi International Airport en route to Hong Kong, according to the Ministry of Transport. The fire reportedly broke out in the tail section of the plane.

The National Fire Service confirmed that 169 passengers, six crew members, and an engineer were safely evacuated. Three individuals sustained minor injuries during the evacuation process.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire. This incident comes just a month after a Jeju Air passenger plane crash at Muan International Airport in southern South Korea, which resulted in the loss of 179 lives out of the 181 people on board.

As investigations continue, the Ministry of Transport has pledged to enhance safety protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.
